Christmas 2020 – the year of the pandemic! How was your holiday season? 🎄🎅🏽🧑🏼🎄🦌🛷🎁🕎
Mine was a mixed bag that’s for sure. I barely painted 30% of my normal Christmas and holiday windows. I had Zero windows in Manhattan, 4 places in Brooklyn, 4 in Queens; that was it!
The owner of the court square diner originally said no windows this year because the mayor was going to shut down all indoor dining. “Why should I have the windows painted if I have no customers eating inside?” I said, “Ya, that makes sense to me. I see your point.” But then he said, “ You know what? Come and paint the entryway. People come through there to pick up food.”
That entryway is one of the most brutal places I’ve ever painted. Not only do the two entryway doors let in Arctic blasts of air as people go in and out, but lots of people lean on the doors and get paint on themselves despite me standing there with paint and a paintbrush in my hands!
Despite it all, I was grateful for the work and happy to be in the city painting Christmas; my favorite time of the year!
